| 100 Foot Extension Cords?????? | | I just don't seem to be able to find enough 100 foot extension cords. The router has a range of 300 to 500 feet. Let me explain.I have a wonderful laptop computer that I love. It has wi-fi so I am not confined to a single place such as a desk or even the house. The children have not charged the battery properly and I probably need to replace the battery or the children. But replacing the battery is expensive so I just run the power cord. The normal distance from the computer to the outlet is about 10 feet with the power cord but I want freedom. More freedom! Lots of freedom!!! I want to go out into the yard now that the weather is getting nice. I have been hunting through the house looking for my husband's 100 foot extension cords. I have found 2 extension cords so far. That will get me about 210 feet. I just know he has one more extension cord around here somewhere. It has to be here somewhere. But where?? I know he has it hidden. I have looked in the utility room, the barn, the closets and still no cord.Oh!! I just had a thought. If I also add... | |
| | Is it Safe to plug an Extension Cord into ANOTHER Extension Cord?? | | I was just wondering if it's dangerous to plug and extension cord into another one to make it go farther?I just did that in my bedroom this evening.
None of my outlets on one side of the room work because the stupid guy who put them in told me he was an electrician but I don't think he was!So I need to run extension cords from the other side of the room for everything on this side.....including my laptop computer.I should have a real electrician come and fix the outlets but I hate to have to pay someone else to fix the other guy's mistakes!!
| | Blessing or Curse? | | Extension CordsIf you are using an extension cord, and you notice that there is one knot tied in it, will you stop what you're doing and untie/ untangle that knot before you use the extension cord, or will you not even notice such a thing? Also, when you put away an extension cord, do you have a certain way of coiling it, or do you just not care?Does it bother you when you see messy looking/ tangled up extension cords or do you just not care as long as it can function as you need it? | |
| | Lighting Advice | | I have problems in the computer room with lighting. Have a ceiling fan with lights but it's not really producing enough light when I'm on the computer for extended periods of time. Don't have an outlet close enough to the keyboard to light it up while I'm working here. I do have an extension cord which I ran plug in and use but not comfortable with leaving it connected all the time. Can anyone offer some suggestions on what I can do to relieve eyestrain? Thanks so much and Happy New Year to everyone. | |
| | Do You Have Little Ghosts In Your House Too? | | When my children was living with me things got misplaced or went missing and nobody had seen them or know where they are, for instance I had one of those long orange extension cords about 50 feet long . It just disappeared nobody knew what happened to it.I would have one can of soda left in the fridge nobody know where it went. Little things like that. I would always say I guess I have ghost in the house then.Do you have little ghosts in your home. | |
| | So, I told you about the cabinet we got | | Today the roomie was going to pack up the old bookshelf and small cabinet that used to be where we wanted to put the new one.She started packing, and emptying, and moving things. When the other roommate got up - this being a day off - she was surprised to see what had been done.In the early afternoon, the roomie asked if she would sweep the floor where they had been...Well, she never just "sweeps" if she has time and energy and SPACE and will see a reward, she will do it RIGHT.And she did. She swept. She got down on her knees and cleaned under the other cabinet where the TV and fridge are and cleaned under it. She mopped. She pulled the little table out from between the cabinet that's staying and cleaned there (and discovered that the cats had... damaged the extension cords that she had run the c-pap, talking book machine, lamp and clock off - damaged as in "shocking!"So, they called me and asked for me to pick up a long extension cord - because they had a power strip - and dinner on my way home.
I got the cord, but when I got home, I learned (as I honestly expected) we really needed ANOTHER power strip. So I wanted to move the cabinet into place and that...
| | He fixed it! | | It must have been a couple months now that we've been living without power in half of our house. One night just all of a sudden the power went out in the bathroom, the kitchen light, and 2 of the 3 bedrooms upstairs. We couldn't afford an electrician, so we did many things to try to fix it ourselves. We replaced the light fixtures in the rooms that were not working, then we replaced the light switches and all of the outlets in the house. It still didn't work.
Last weekend we tore down the ceiling in the dining room, hoping to be able to see the problem, still we did not, however we found a spot where the electricity splits off so we assumed that area was the problem. Hubby messed around with the wiring last week, unhooking the connections and reconnecting them... but still no power! We were beginning to think nothing short of a miracle and an expensive electrician would ever fix this problem.Well Saturday night we went to Lowe's and bought some new wiring, and yesterday hubby connected the wiring to a working outlet, and then connected it to the wires in the ceiling that split off into the non working areas. I was still convinced this wouldn't work. So many times...
| | I'm so angry right now- does someone have advice? | | A few days ago something happened and suddenly I have no power in my bathroom or in 2 of my bedrooms, and the main kitchen light is out. It's not the curcuit, that has been checked a few times. To get light to these rooms I'm using extension cords, which isn't very safe in the bathroom, especially when the little kids are bathing or showering. My FIL owns this house, and he seems to think we're doing just fine with our electric cord set up. He doesn't understand that it's dangerous. He hasn't called an electrician yet and he keeps saying he is waiting until he has the money for it, although he doesn't even know how much it's going to cost.I am so mad that I have to live like this. We can't afford to move, otherwise we would have a long time ago. This is so frustrating I could scream!! | |
| | (Dollar Store) Deal or No Deal? | | The $ stores can be fun to shop at - I like them not so much for the $1 price tag but because it is so easy to keep track of what you have spent. just count the number of items, apply tax rate and voila! You can find some pretty good deals at a dollar store, especially in way of snacks and hair accessories, though it is true somethings would cost less than the $1 elsewhere. There are also somethings which you should not buy at the dollar store. Some examples of "No Deal"
Extension cords and Christmas lights are prone to melting and causing fires.
Consumer reports did a study on vitamins purchased at a dollar store and found that some of the claims on the ingredients list were false (vit. not in the pill)
dollar store toothpastes (even if called the same as your brand) may contain levels of flouride that are too high and toxic. these things are not regulated by the FDA when produced outside the states I guess?
Beware of vinyl food containers - such as lunch totes these are generally imported and contain at least traces of lead which in turn can leach into your food -toxicity is not frugal!Do you have any suggestions as to Deal or No Deal (as the...
| | How many electrical outlets do you need? | | I think that every wall in a house should have an electrical outlet. I live in an older house and there isn't even an outlet in the bathroom. I have to run extension cords all over the place and they make me feel unsafe. If I want to blow dry my hair or use an iron on it I have to run an extension cord. It's a big hassle. I wonder why people in the past didn't think about putting an outlet on each wall? Does your house have enough outlets? | |
